We should be ashamed of ourselves as a nation. We should be ashamed that we allow those in Congress, and especially our president, to remain in power. Our country is being set up for failure and that my friends, is the bottom line.
I’ve read many articles now on the question as to whether or not waterboarding constitutes torture. I’ve read the Assistant Attorney General’s opinion and where his honest opinion has left him-unemployed. I’ve read what I can about the Geneva Conventions and they are clear- waterboarding is torture. It is a violation of the agreements in which America participates. Read the following from Wikipedia:
“The treatment of prisoners who do not fall into the categories described in Article 4 has led to the current controversy regarding the Bush Administration’s interpretation of “unlawful combatants”. The assumption that such a category as unlawful combatant exists is not contradicted by the findings by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Celebici Judgment. The judgement quoted the 1958 ICRC commentary on the Fourth Geneva Convention: Every person in enemy hands must be either a prisoner of war and, as such, be covered by the Third Convention; or a civilian covered by the Fourth Convention. Furthermore, “There is no intermediate status; nobody in enemy hands can be outside the law,” because in the opinion of the ICRC “If civilians directly engage in hostilities, they are considered ‘unlawful’ or ‘unprivileged’ combatants or belligerents (the treaties of humanitarian law do not expressly contain these terms). They may be prosecuted under the domestic law of the detaining state for such action”.
So what happens when the rest of the world comes to this conclusion? We become fair game. Our soldiers become fair game. The backs of other nations will be turned upon us leaving us bereft of any support to include economic support. Doesn’t this scare you?
I find it quite interesting that waterboarding has and continues to be used by our country because there are options. I have a fantastic one, in fact. If we are to disregard the rules, then why not use Versed on our prisoners of war? It’s a truth serum of sorts. When given, it forces the “patient” to tell the absolute truth and forget everything like it never happened. I should know because it was used on my ten different times for ten different surgeries. You’d think that if it is so readily available, our CIA would have to ability to obtain and use it. At least it would not be torture and might cover our sorry little asses.
Puhleez! I have heard and read enough about all of the atrocities that have been purported and supported by the current administration. Won’t someone stand up for the American people and move to impeach? We are owed at least that.
